After 10 years using the art of cooking as a tool for social transformation in Brazil, taking this concept of Social Gastronomy throughout the world, at events such as the IDB Forum, the World Economic Forum and TED Global events, Gastromotiva arrives in Mexico in February 2016 to replicate this successful experience for the first time in an international market.
With characteristics very similar to Brazil: big social inequalities, high rates of informal employment, vast diversity and a rich gastronomic spectrum, which is part of the cultural heritage of the country, besides being a development hub for entrepreneurship and social innovation, Mexico became a natural path when we decided to expand our impact.
In partnership with Grupo Son Restaurantero and Aliat Universidades, Gastromotiva starts its operations in the city of Coacalco, State of Mexico, on the outskirts of the federal capital, one of the regions that has the largest number of people living under the poverty line in the country.
Through the Vocational Course in Kitchen, the main project of the organization and the award-winning TAC/WAC (Working Action in Communities – “Trabalho de Ação nas Comunidades”, in Portuguese), in which students multiply the knowledge obtained in the classroom in their communities, with a focus on healthy eating and child obesity, Gastromotiva will impact close to 5,000 people in the first year of operation, including students, families, schools, communities and all staff involved in the operation.
